this AOL issue does not just effect the KT, it effects a lot of sites that have password / IP / cookie based authentication. the official answer is

AOL users should be able to login without any problems if they click "remember me". The AOL browser uses cache servers and the browser's IP changes on each page view which causes problems with session validation. |
i've also unbanned the use of AOL email addresses.
please note, when tring to access the forums IF you are an AOL user or if after your
enter your User Name and Password you get bumped right back to this page, please
select the "Remember Me?" box. Remember to LOG OUT when you are done. DO NOT
access the Kappatalk from a public computer if you are using the AOL software or
if you have to select "Remember Me?" from a public or shared computer.
AOL users can also access the KT by simply opening an internet browser out side
of AOL and try to log in via the AOL extrnal browser. Contact us if you have
any issues.
